Catechesis of the Good Shepard is a religious formationthat began in Rome during the 1950's by two women: Sofia Cavallitti ( a Hebrew Scripture Scholar) and Gianna Gobbi (a Montessori instructor). Together they developed an approach to religious education by observing children's reactions to the Bible and to litergy. Today we use a "curriculum" that was assembled that carries the name Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. St. John's Level 1 atruim serves ages 3-6 faith formation and meets Wednesday afternoons. St. John's 1st through 8th grade faith formation students meet Sunday mornings weekly. The 1st through 5th graders are utilizing the "Discovery, Finding Faith in Life" curiculum to learn about Scriptures, Saints, Catholic Traditions and prayers. The 7th and 8th grade students are going through the Youcat to dive deeper into the Teachings, customs and Traditions of the Catholic Church.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to those students who are entering the sitxh grade in the fall of the year. These students utilize the "Call to Celebrate Confirmation" curiculum to guide them in their studies of the Sacrament of Confirmation. They meet weekly, on Sundays, with their instructor, attend the Diocean Youth Rally in the fall, participate in a retreat gear specificly to them, and meet regularly with their sponcers. The high school students of St. John's meet weekly on Wednesday evenings for fellowship, discussion, and prayer.
